Chennai was probably the first city in India to give hype to New Year Sale.
In the mid-seventies, Vivek started the one day New Year Sale. The sale which happened on
the first of January every year was something which every Chennaite looked forward to.
People expected good discounts (and they got it too!!). People used to stand in the queue
even from 7 a.m. in the morning when the store actually opened at about 9.30 a.m.
But what happened? Everybody started aping this scheme and the one day became three days
and then one week.
Today it is a different story. A lot of things are bought on-line. Particularly mobiles, books, clothes and what not.
In my own experience, I find that the November sale this year has been the poorest in the last
forty eight months!!
Not much or almost nil sale is what could be expected till Christmas time.
What is going to happen after that for you and me?
Let us hope for the best!!
Good Luck.
