The Nightingale and Glowworm was written by William Cowper.
A nightingale, that all day long
Had cheer'd the village with his song,
Nor yet at eve his not suspended,
Nor yet when eventide was ended......
We used to have a book of story poems in our house and I still remember
the day my father read out this poem to me.
